The baritone Wolfgang Rauch was born in Cologne, Germany. After he successfully completed studies in economics and political science, he decided to study singing at the Musikhochschule of Cologne, Germany, and also in Italy and France.

Due to his talent as a singer and performer he quickly became, whilst being a singing student, a permanent member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. During this period, Placido Domingo became aware of Wolfgang Rauch and engaged him for his gala concert on the occasion of the reopening of the Prinzregenten Theater in Munich.

Meanwhile, the increasing demands from his home country Germany and from abroad led Wolfgang Rauch to begin an internationally oriented career. He paid particular attention to the linguistic aspects of his art, since in addition to his native German language, he is fluent in French, Italian, English and Spanish.
